Introduction

The topic discussed in this website is mining in the Ecuador and how it effects the indigenous people of the country. This website will cover news stories, reports, and books that demonstrate why the indigenous groups oppose mining in the Amazon Rainforest. Mining in Ecuador has been on the rise of recently, and projected to continue growing throughout the next few years. I have traveled to many different parts of the world, some being developed countries and others that are still developing. Wherever I go, there always seems to be one constant throughout the world, which is that the indigenous people of any given country have lost their rights to the land they claimed long before anyone else.

Indigenous groups are some of the purest people on this earth. Indigenous groups tend to understand nature better than modern society, so the destruction of their land takes a heavy toll on their daily life. Most governments and private organizations, and even the population, are more consumed with profit and economic progress that the environment seems to take a backseat to it. The indigenous people have lost their basic rights for the sake of “progress”, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Mining on the land of the indigenous groups of Ecuador without consulting them is not only wrong, but unconstitutional.
